    Lisa Meets Betty Halbreich

A Lesson in Style and Confidance: Lisa Meets Betty Halbreich in New York

Lisa had always admired women who understood the power of personal style—not just in the way they dressed, but in the way they carried themselves. Few embodied that philosophy better than Betty Halbreich, the iconic personal shopper of Bergdorf Goodman. When Lisa had the opportunity to meet her in New York, she knew she was about to gain insights that extended far beyond fashion.

    Stepping into an Icon’s World!

Walking into Bergdorf Goodman felt like stepping into a different era—one where elegance reigned, and personal style was cultivated with care. Betty Halbreich had spent over four decades in these halls, dressing women from all walks of life with a signature blend of honesty and impeccable taste.

Lisa had read I’ll Drink to That, Halbreich’s memoir, and knew of her reputation for sharp instincts and a deep understanding of style. When they finally met, it was immediately clear that Halbreich’s approach to fashion was about more than just clothes—it was about self-awareness, confidence, and knowing what truly works for an individual.

    Beyond Trends – Findning Authenticity

Unlike stylists who focus on seasonal trends, Halbreich’s philosophy emphasized timelessness and personal identity. She believed that great style wasn’t about following fashion but about understanding oneself and making intentional choices. Lisa watched as carefully selected garments were presented—classic, well-tailored, and effortlessly elegant. Each piece reflected a belief in quality over excess, in dressing with purpose rather than for spectacle.

    A Lesson in Confidence

As their conversation continued, Lisa realized she wasn’t just receiving styling advice—she was learning about the power of clarity and decision-making in personal presentation. Halbreich’s expertise lay in helping clients refine their wardrobes to reflect who they truly were, rather than who they thought they should be.

Before leaving, Lisa reflected on what she had gained from the experience. She had come in expecting to discuss fashion, but she left with a deeper understanding of self-assurance and the importance of dressing for oneself. The meeting wasn’t just about finding the right clothes—it was about embracing confidence, authenticity, and the idea that great style is ultimately a reflection of inner certainty.

Fashion for a Better Future: Sustainability at the UN

It was a day of meaningful engagement and style when Lisa participated in a special event at the United Nations, organized to highlight the intersection of fashion and global initiatives. This year, the focus was on sustainability and social responsibility, with discussions and showcases emphasizing the industry’s role in shaping a better future.

    Fashion with Purpose

The UN event was not just about aesthetics and design but also a powerful statement on how the fashion industry can be a driving force for positive change. The gathering featured speakers, presentations, and showcases from designers committed to sustainable production methods, proving that fashion can be both beautiful and responsible.

Lisa took part in a presentation alongside Tamara, contributing to discussions on the role of fashion in sustainability. Her presence underscored the message that fashion is more than just trends—it is an industry with the potential to inspire change and promote ethical practices.

The Role of the Michael Douglas Foundation

The Michael Douglas Foundation, known for its work in peace and sustainable development, was one of the key supporters behind the event. By backing initiatives like this, the foundation reinforces its commitment to a world where the fashion industry takes greater responsibility for the environment and human rights.

Reflecting on the experience, Lisa shared her appreciation for being involved. “Being part of an event like this is not just inspiring, but it’s also an opportunity to highlight critical issues. Fashion has the power to influence, and I hope this event encourages positive change,” she said after the event.

    A Future for Sustainable Fashion

The UN event marked another step toward a more sustainable and ethically conscious fashion industry. With passionate individuals like Lisa and organizations such as the Michael Douglas Foundation driving the cause forward, the future looks promising for a fashion industry that not only inspires but also contributes to meaningful global progress.

    Lisa meets Patricia Field

Lisa’s Encounter with Patricia Field: A Meeting with a Fashion Visionary

For Lisa, fashion has always been more than clothing—it’s a language, a form of storytelling, a way to shape identity. When she had the chance to meet Patricia Field, the legendary stylist behind Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada, it was more than just an encounter; it was a masterclass in creative vision.

    A Legacy in Fashion

Patricia Field is not just a stylist—she is a cultural icon. Her work has defined eras, shaping how audiences perceive fashion in film and television. Lisa, an aspiring stylist herself, had long admired Field’s fearless approach to style, where bold choices and unexpected combinations turn outfits into statements.

As she walked into the New York boutique where their meeting was set, Lisa felt the weight of the moment. Field, known for her signature red hair and effortlessly cool demeanor, greeted her with the same energy that has fueled decades of fashion innovation.

    A Conversation about Creativity

Sitting across from Field, Lisa quickly realized that this was not going to be a standard industry conversation about trends and techniques. Instead, Field spoke about intuition in styling, about trusting one’s instincts rather than following the rules.

“The best stylists don’t dress people, they create characters,” Field said. “You have to think beyond what’s fashionable and tap into what’s authentic.”.

Lisa listened intently as Field shared stories about working with Sarah Jessica Parker, how the iconic tutu from Sex and the City was found in a $5 bin, and why embracing individuality is more important than ever in an industry obsessed with uniformity.

    Lessons from a Legend

As the conversation unfolded, Lisa felt a shift in her own perspective. She realized that styling wasn’t just about clothes—it was about storytelling, attitude, and self-expression. Field encouraged her to take risks, to see styling as a creative rebellion rather than a set of rules to follow.

Before leaving, Lisa asked one final question: “What advice would you give to someone trying to make it in fashion?”.

Field smiled. “Find your own language. And don’t be afraid to be loud about it.”.

Lisa walked away from the meeting not just inspired, but transformed. She now understood that styling wasn’t just about dressing people—it was about shaping identities, challenging norms, and, most importantly, telling a story that only she could tell.

The Evolution of Fashion in 2025

When talking about fashion, we must consider all the external factors, such as economic and social influences, as well as the general well-being of our society. Fashion is not just an art form of self-expression—it is everything around us. This is especially true for stylists who work across all styles, from gowns to streetwear. So, what are our predictions for the direction of the fashion industry in 2025? Here at The Rose Room, we explore the trends and movements shaping the future.

    Sustainability as Standard:
Sustainability is no longer an option—it’s an expectation. In 2025, brands are moving beyond greenwashing and embracing circular fashion, regenerative materials, and transparent supply chains. Consumers demand accountability, and companies that fail to adapt risk being left behind.

The Evolution of Fashion in 2025:
The industry is shifting towards inclusivity, with a focus on diverse body types, gender-fluid fashion, and adaptive clothing. Fashion is no longer dictated by a select few but shaped by communities and individuals who bring authenticity and cultural representation to the forefront.

    The Power of Individuality:
Personal style is becoming more important than trends.
In 2025, fashion is about self-expression rather than following seasonal collections. Consumers seek unique, meaningful pieces that reflect their identity, leading to a rise in custom, small-batch, and artisanal fashion

Fashion in 2025 is dynamic, responsible, and deeply personal. At The Rose Room, we embrace these changes by educating and inspiring the next generation of stylists and fashion professionals. As the industry evolves, one thing remains clear: fashion is not just about clothing—it’s about shaping the future.

    Personal Styling Student

Last week The Rose Room Team had the opportunity to meet one of our Personal Styling Students Nora! We sat down with her for a short interview.

    Who is Nora Paulsson?

My name is Nora Paulsson, I am 22 years old, and I currently live in Lund. Since the fall of 2024, I have been taking a course in Personal Styling at The Rose Room.

    A Good Start!

My best tips for a successful start in the fashion industry would primarily be to build a strong network. Attend fashion events, go to trade shows, and connect with people in the industry. Practical experience is also crucial, so apply for internships at fashion houses or volunteer at fashion shows to gain insight into how the industry works.

I also believe it’s important to stay updated and continue learning. Take courses, participate in workshops, and delve into the development and history of fashion. Finally, be persistent. The fashion industry can be tough and highly competitive. Learn from your experiences and keep striving toward your goals.

    I’VE Alwyas

    Loved STYLING

How to reach your goals, by Nora:

I have always loved styling and known that I want to work in fashion. The course in Personal Styling at The Rose Room feels like a perfect step to develop my skills, and their workshops are both rewarding and incredibly fun. I love being able to test and challenge myself in a practical setting where I truly get a sense of how the job works in real life. As I continue my Fashion Studies in Lund, I will be able to combine everything I learn from the course with the theoretical knowledge, which will give me a broader skill set. Together, these experiences will provide me with the tools I need to move forward toward future jobs and internships in the fashion industry.

We went to Paris Fashion Week

The Rose Room team has traveled to Paris Fashion Week togather with one of our Stylist program Students! We had the opportunity to ask her some inspiring questions — come along!

    Let’s hear from Tilda Mellinger:

Attending Paris fashion Week feels like a dream and a significant milestone achieved. I am fully aware that it will require a great deal of effort and dedication, but that is the essence of fashion week.

I am thrilled to experience fashion week from the industry perspective and to be part of the authentic journey. I look forward to returning to New York enriched with new experiences and in-spirations, which I am confident I will gain!

How have the skills you gained in the course prepared you for this opportunity?

The skills I’ve gained so far I believe have helped me to calm my nerves, because I feel like I have more of an understanding of the industry and what it requires to be a stylist. I understand more about how to go about the job and what is fundamental to making the job as good and organized as possible. Learning these things in advance prepares me for how to do the best job I can but it has also taught me what could go wrong, but if that would happen I feel like the skills I’ve learned will make me preferred for that, if something would happen, which I really don’t hope!

    Tildas Pro-Tip: Reach Out!

“Don’t hesitate to reach out to industry professionals, whether brands, individuals, or friends. Demonstrate your passion and readiness to contribute. Building connections is essential—it’s not about quantity but about taking the initiative. Showing genuine interest makes you stand out, and asking for help is perfectly acceptable; we all need support at times.”
